How to wash lace front LOCS or BRAIDED wig
Although the base of Afrocentric wigs are hand made with 100% human hair base, washing your wig promotes healthy hair and skin (i am guessing you don't want acne on your forehead after long term use of your wig)
How to wash the cap of a lace front loc or braid wig with human hair base
(including 13x6 frontal unit, 13x4 frontal unit, 360 frontal unit and full lace unit)
First things first !!!.... Do not use hot water to wash your lace front braided wigs because the major part of the braiding and locs are made of synthetic material. Using hot water could damage the strength and longevity of your wig and make them look rough,
Step 1a
- Add cold/ lukewarm water in a bowl
- Add quantity amount of a good quality shampoo
- Turn wig inside out and slightly dip lace cap into your lukewarm water
OR
Step 1b
- Add water to a spray bottle
- Add Shampoo into the water in the spray bottle
- Shake... (you can wait till bubble settle with the bottle and then continue or you can do all that process in a container then pour into the bottle)
- Spray lace cap
Step 2
- Get a clean rag (towel like material)
- dip rag in cold/lukewarm water containing shampoo
- squeeze out excess water from rag
- use the the rag to Lightly rub on the lace
- apply force when needed ( although we use amazing quality lace for our wigs..be careful when using full lace wig)
- After cleaning with the rag, lay wig on flat surface
Step 3
- Use a good quality styling hair mousse while you vertically finger comb your wig, while a little bit wet.
- Use hair spray or oil sheen to keep it shining.
- Always hang or style on a mannequin head in a good weather condition when not in use
another way to wash if you got strong hands!!
- Get a spray bottle... fill with cold or lukewarm water
- Hold the wig vertically upside down.. that is hold the wig by the loc, allowing the cap of the wig to hang downward to the floor. in other words, the ends of the loc or braid should head toward the heavens (north) and base cap should head toward earth (south) while holding vertically
- While holding the wig upside (cap will remain upside down and wet)
- spray water onto the cap and rinse off all residue
- Hang wig to dry ( if you can hang upside.. bless your heart honey, if not... its still good as long as you DO NOT SQUEEZE THE WIG with hand or towel like a piece of clothing.
Dipping your Lace front BRAID AND LOC Wigs in water
Although the older the locs are, the more natural it looks... some people will want to wash their locs and braids. For those that want to wash the braids and loc itself, and wondering if the hair can be dipped into water, of course it can be dipped but always remember, you are not scrubbing on the locs or braids
Step 1
- Add cold water in a bowl
- Add quantity amount of a good quality shampoo
- Vertically dip in your braided wig into cold water (2-3 times)
- Softly finger massage your wig (run your finger through it)
- Lay the braided or loc wig on a flat surface
Step 2
- Change to clean water
- Rinse properly with cold water and take the wig out vertically and dip in again 2-5 times or rinse while holding the wig straight up
- Do not squeeze dry your wig, instead hang your wig vertically or style on a mannequin’s head to blow dry on the lowest heat or leave it out to dry (best option)
Step 3
- Trim around the sides of each strands of hair if there is any need to "do not cut the tip".
- Use a good quality styling hair mousse while you vertically finger comb your wig, while a little bit wet.
- Use hair spray or oil sheen to keep it shining.
- Always hang or style on a mannequin head in a good weather condition when not in use
